Well.....................we had all sorts of options for the holiday weekend, but I can assure you that none of them included spending the better part of two days at Urgent Care. Yes.....Urgent Care. Needless to say, we did not go out of town, we did not go see any fireworks, but we did stay in all weekend.
I picked Emma up early from school and we went home thinking that we could kind of take it easy before heading out to VBS for the evening. By 4:30 I knew that we were not going anywhere that night. Emma had taken herself to bed and she had a fever. There didn't seem to be anything else wrong except for the fact that she was asleep by 5:00. Friday morning we were all up early and left to take Emma to see the doctor since we didn't seem to be able to get her fever to go down. At this point she had also been complaining that her head and neck hurt and we were having a hard time getting her not only to eat but to drink anything. Being a person that worries about everything, I just knew they were going to tell me the worst. They took a throat swab to test for strep and they had to take a little tube of blood to run some other tests. Let's just say that she did better with the blood taking than I did. Good thing her Daddy was there. The strep test came back negative, but her blood counts were really high along with her fever so they gave her an antibiotic shot and a prescription for another antibiotic. And on a side note - getting a prescription filled on the Fourth of July is NOT fun!
We took her back on Saturday after a very long Friday and an even longer night. They had to take some more blood and this time it didn't go so well. I was almost in tears when they were finally done with her :-( Nothing much came from this visit except that we found out she wasn't getting any worse and just a smidge better.
I can say this for my girl - both days she had to have her dress on and a bow in her hair. It cracked me up! Since I knew that it is often cold at Urgent Care, her Daddy made sure to bring one of her quilts. The second day, she wouldn't leave the house with out her "heart" as she calls this little pillow that her Uncle Michael gave her. She climbed up on the table and laid down and went to sleep. I took the following picture on Saturday with my cell phone.
She is better today. Her fever is down and she has played more today that the last couple of days combined. But once she decides she is going to lay down, it only takes a couple of minutes for her to fall asleep. I can honestly say, my little girl has been very sick and I don't like it. :-(
This morning Steven stayed home with her while I went to church with my BIL and SIL as they were taking my new niece to church for the first time. They attend the congregation that we used to attend and had attended for many years. I hadn't attended a service there in over a year and it was wonderful to see everyone. Carla and her family were up from Florida so I was able to visit with her. I got to spend a few minutes with Joanna and Terri. I said a quick hello to Valerie and saw Tonya and Sarah from a distance. I have a lot of bloggy friends there and it was sooooo good to see them in person. The rest of my day has been spent trying to keep Miss Emma occupied and happy. I was able to get her to eat some cereal - Yeah!!!!! She has gone to sleep and I pray that she is able to sleep all night and that her fever stays down.
Another prayer request I have is for one of my co-workers, Byron. He has been having some health issues regarding his heart and just has not been feeling well. He was scheduled for a heart cath on Tuesday, but yesterday he was feeling so bad that he ended up going to the hospital via ambulance. They have determined that he has not had a heart attack, and have gotten him stabilized until his doctor can see him on Monday.
I hope that all of you had a healthier weekend and were able to enjoy some fireworks. Emma's uncle is going to set some off for her in a couple of weeks so she can see the pretty "stars" in the sky.

Elaina, I had no idea Emma was that sick. Having a sick baby is no fun. It sounds like she's getting better. Maybe tonight's sleep will help her over the hump.
It was great to see you this morning. BTW: Your hair looks great!!
Hey girl,
I wish you could catch a break. I had no idea about Miss Emma. When you have two little ones, you don't have much time for conversations. Sorry we didn't get to chat more. I hope sweet Emma gets to feeling better very soon. Great to see you yesterday.
I enjoyed our brief chat at VBS (Alvaton sure can throw a great VBS). I'm sorry to hear about Emma. Keep us posted on her!!! Praying for you friend.
Oh, I hope she gets better soon. Any idea what it is/was? Being sick isn't fun, and even worse when it is your little girl and you cannot completely comfort her. Hope the week gets better.
Oh! Poor baby! It's so hard to watch our kids not be themselves. I'm glad she's starting to perk up a little and I hope she gets to enjoy her own personal fireworks show very soon! Hang in there, mama!
So sorry to hear your little one has been sick. I know it just breaks your heart to see them that way. Hope she is feeling better and continues getting better every day.
I just heard from Barb today about Byron - keeping them in my thoughts and prayers and hope all goes well with the cath tomorrow.
Take care,
