Hard Times

Poor Miss Emmaline has had a rough couple of weeks.

Who would have thought that because of this....

she would end up like this....

April 14th, I picked her up from school - she was limping and did not want to walk. Got her home and went to put her in the bathtub. I took a band aide off of what we had thought was a mosquito bite only to discover it was now huge (the size of a half dollar coin) dark red, swollen and very hot to the touch. I put her in the tub to get her cleaned up, called Steven and we decided we needed to take her to Urgent care. Three plus hours later, we were on our way home with our sweet girl after finding out that what we had thought was a bug bite was really a staff infection. She had to have it cut open and cleaned and then packed. She was in so much pain by the time we got home - I felt so incredibly bad for her. We had to take her back every couple of days to have the dressing changed. Finally, 5 days later the lab results came back and it was negative for MRSA. I had done okay that night until he mentioned MRSA. I will admit I was scared to death. She was on an antibiotic (Bactrin) and it was a relief to see her get better. On Friday morning she got up and was sitting on the couch. I went to go say good morning to her and I noticed something on her face. After turning on the light - let's just say, I was shocked!!! Her poor little face was puffy and red. By the time I got her to the doctor that morning, her little tummy, back, arms and legs were covered in spots. My MIL thought it was measles so it was another big relief for me to find out it was only an allergy to the sulpha in the antibiotic she had taken. Unfortunately, it takes a while for it to work out of your body, so she is going to continue to have breakouts for a couple of weeks. The sun apparently makes it worse, so even though it was so nice this weekend, she pretty much had to stay inside. She is now on a round of Prednisone along with Claritin and Benedryl. Pray that nothing else happens to her. She has had her quota for a while :-)

Poor Emma! I'm so glad she's better now, but boy what a traumatic experience for a little girl!!!!

I, too, am allergic to sulpha meds. and also found out the hard way! Although, my face never broke out like that!
