Emmaline's Birthday Party

This is way, way, way overdue since her party was over 4 weeks ago. But I guess better late than never.
We held Emmaline's 4th birthday party on a Friday evening. It was a Sleeping Beauty Pajama Party. All the kids and even a few of the adults sported their jammies. We had breakfast for dinner and I think it was a big hit. Breakfast casseroles, pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit all followed by some yummy cake. And the best part.....once it was all said and done, the kids all went home and were already ready for bed!
Emmaline and some of her friends, Kassidy, Jenna Claire and Natalie Kate

Emmaline loving on her Aunt Tricia.

We were singing Happy Birthday to her and she got really shy. We have discovered that she does not like all the attention focused on her.

One of her favorite gifts, a princess jammie dress. Thanks Lisa!!
At this point, I have no idea what was making her laugh so hard, but she certainly thought that something was funny :-)

We got her a bicycle for her "big" gift. She was soooo happy to get it that I got a great big kiss as a thank you!!

Pinata loot!

We also got her this dry erase book to help her with her letters and numbers along with shapes and a few other things in it. I was very impressed when it was the first thing she wanted to mess with when we got home after her party. Of course the next morning, she was all about the toys :-)

One very sleepy girl.
Four weeks later and she is still talking about her birthday and her party, so I guess she enjoyed herself. I know I put a lot of pressure on myself wanting her to have a good time but I think she and the other kids did. She is already asking when she is going to have a birthday again. I have been trying to explain to her that everyone else has to have their birthday before she can have another one. She seems to be okay with that as long as they each get a party. When I was telling her that we were going to go see her Papa for his birthday, she wanted to know what kind of party he was going to have and told me we had to go get him some pencils and some boy stuff. She has a thing for pencils....she made me get some for her Daddy's birthday too :-)

Blogoversary and Life Lesson

I didn't realize that today was my 2 year Blogoversary until someone wished me a Happy Blogoversary. So............Happy Blogoversary to me!!! :-)

The Life Lesson ............ life as you know it can change in the blink of an eye!

When I got home yesterday I found this....

This young man was traveling down the road and ended up in my front yard on his side. Amazingly, he was not hurt AT ALL!! Even more amazing was when they got the truck upright, it was discovered that not only did the window not break, but the side view mirror was still intact. He was even able to drive the truck home. It will need a little work, and he will need a little time to recover (emotionally), but all was well.

In talking with his parents afterward, we discovered that I used to work with his dad about 15 years ago.............small world! And then he told me that his son was on his way to a funeral. My
heart just stopped. He was on his way to pay his respects to a friend and only by the grace of God's hands guiding his truck, did he not end up in the same place. He made a statement to me............."One minute I was driving and listening to music and thinking life is good. The next minute, I am in a ditch." I don't think he is going to be driving as fast in the future. Oh yeah........one other thing......he had just had his truck fixed from an accident he was in a month ago.

Life as we know it can change in the blink of an eye!

Emma's Birthday

I am really behind, but I wanted to get some pictures up from Emmaline's birthday day.

Since she is getting older and understands that birthday's are special and that you get older on your birthday, we decided that we would make her birthday this year a "Fun Day". Emma adores her cousins and so we wanted to include them. We all headed for Nashville for a yummy lunch at Olive Garden (that was really more for us grown ups than for the kids :-)) then off to the Adventure Science Center. Emma was a little overwhelmed at first (she doesn't really like crowds), but eventually she really started getting into it. It helped that we went in the afternoon so about the last hour they were open the crowd really started to thin out. Here are a few pics from the day:

Look at that LONG hair.........*sigh*.........I know it is only hair, and it will grow back, but I sure do miss it ;-)

Sweet Sydney!!

Rest in peace sweet Patches

1998 - 2009

Patches passed away last night around 10:30 p.m. She had been really sick for a couple of weeks and I knew that it was just a matter of time. I was amazed at how much it hurt to let her go. She was a part of our little family and she will be missed.

We had been talking to Emma the past week about Patches being very sick and not being with us anymore. Last night since Emma was already asleep, we wrapped Patches up and put her in a box. This morning we got the box and got Emma and explained to her as best we could that Patches had died and was no longer sick or in pain. We gave her the opportunity to say goodbye. While it was hard for her to understand and hard for me to see her pet Patches and ask her to get up I am glad we did it this way. I know that there will be more questions over the next few days but it is a difficult concept for a little on to understand.

This picture was taken last summer. Emma loved to take bathes with Patches. She on the other hand didn't like to take bathes with Emma quiet as much :-)

My beautiful Emmaline Scissorhands

I have gotten over the initial shock of it all and she does look really cute with her little bob. But I know that underneath that top layer of hair is a bunch of short choppy hair that is only a little over an inch long. :-( It still makes me sad that her long hair is gone, but I know that it will grow back.
We discovered Saturday afternoon that wide headbands work great at not only keeping the hair back to help cover the short parts in the back but also at covering up the lack of hair on the sides.......so I am going to be doing some shopping for headbands. We found this cute black and white one at the $1 hot spot at Target.
She told me Saturday night that after her bath she wanted it to be long again and I could put it up in ponytails and she would even let me braid it. She woke up yesterday morning and started crying once she realized she had short hair. She just doesn't understand that even though she cut it, we can't just put it back and she will have her long hair again.
So if you should happen to see my daughter, please tell her how much you like her new haircut, and then ask her who is supposed to cut her hair...............she will now say "Miss Kendra!"

Hide the Scissors!!!

You know it is going to be a long Saturday when you walk into your bathroom at 8:30 in the morning and find this.....

Yes.......her long hair was gone.

Fortunately, we are blessed to have Kendra in our lives and she was able to make it look like she has a cute little bob. But if you lift up the top layer, you see all the short chopped hair.

Thank you Kendra for coming in on Saturday to help us. Once I calm down, I will post more about it I am sure :-)
