Gotta love those nurses assistants!!
I took Emmaline in for her 4 year old checkup today. They called us back within just a few minutes of arriving (Yippppeee!!). Took us right back and had her get on the scale. She did it really fast and quickly goes....."okay, 43 pounds....lets get you into a room". I stood there for like 2 seconds and said wait...."we were here like 10 days ago and she was only 38 pounds. She has been sick, so I don't think she gained 5 pounds in 10 days. Can we do that again?" To which she replied..."well, that is what it said. Into the room please, I do have other patients to see." So into the room we went, she took her temp, did her blood pressure and left. Never asked me what meds she was on or even measured her height. I was a little (Okay - a lot) unhappy. I have had issues with the doctors medical assistants before (just trying to get them to call me back), but never a problem when I was actually in the office.
The doctor came in within just a few minutes after that and sat and talked with Emmaline for a while and then once he opened up his handy dandy little computer thingy, I asked him to check and see what she weighed 10 days ago..."38.5 lbs" I then asked..."so do you think it is possible for her to have gained 5 pounds in the last 10 days while she has been sick and not eating much?" He sat there for not even a second and was out of his chair and went out the door and over to the scales. He looked at his computer thingy and came back in and asked Emma to come with him. He reweighed her (she had actually lost a pound) and then he says "it looks like something is going on here, she didn't get her height either...". He wasn't too happy and I was pretty sure she wasn't going to be too happy either once he was done with her. After he was done, he went out and we waited for Emma to get her shots.
When the same chick came in the room with the needles and a look of death at me, I quickly asked her to go get someone else. I did it nicely, I told her that I knew she was upset with me for talking to the doctor, but I didn't want her to take out her anger on my daughter's thighs. She actually said to me..."I cannot believe that you said ANYTHING to him. There is a lot to do here and anyone can make a mistake." I thought...good grief!! I know that people can make mistakes, but her medication is based on her weight and I don't want him increasing a dosage that does not need to be increased. Plus, I knew that it wasn't right and I ASKED you to redo it. You REFUSED!"
So a nurse was gotten and Emmaline got her shots. One in each leg and one in each arm. She did great.....didn't even cry.....but she did say "Ooooowwwww Mommy!!!" a lot! I still can't believe she is FOUR!!!
