Big Girl Bed

We have been shopping for a new bed for Miss Emma. She has to be one of the oldest kids in town to still be sleeping in her crib. But she hasn't wanted a "big girl bed" and only just recently even started getting out of it on her own. I have to say, it has been really nice to just put her down for the night and not have to worry about her getting up constantly. Unfortunately, as long as she is, she is about to become longer than her bed (not quiet -but close!).

We have been trying to decide if we want to do the daybed, a twin, or go ahead with a full size. I think we have decided to get a daybed with a pop-up trundle. That way if we should need it, we will have a "king" size bed for company.

Here are the three beds we picked out yesterday. I like all of them, but there is a pretty big price difference between a couple of them.

Bed A: Iron and Oak
Bed B: Cherry Wood
Bed C: Black Onyx Finish
Bed B is probably my favorite, but I am actually leaning towards Bed A. Steven really likes Bed C in the black. I like it, but am just not sure of black furniture for a little girl. We are also looking at a slat twin bed that comes in oak, cherry, pine, black or white. We had no problem picking out a crib.............I never expected it to be this hard to pick out a stinkin' bed! Help!!!!!

Oh, how fun. I like Bed A, but we also have small rooms so something with thick wood just looks bulky, but Bed B would be my second choice.

We are going to be doing the same thing for Josey pretty soon. We will need the crib for Baby P2. Luckily we have like 3-beds in storage so we don't need to buy anything, just dressers.

How fun!!

They are all beautiful, but If I was buying, I'd go for A. Very practical reasons. It will be the easiest to adapt if you want to change the style of her room without having the bed as the main focus that everything else has to adapt to. The other two are so distinctive that they will always be the first thing you see when walk in a room. And somehow they seem larger. Bed B is going to take up a bit more room because the ends curve out, but with C, I think it must be because the sides and end are higher -- and it is so black. Do you see a girly room built around that bed? Even in another color, I think it might look sort of masculine and solid.

Well, I'm probably in the minority with Steven.... Zoe has black furniture in her room. I think black furniture is trendy, yet classy! When Zoe's furniture was first delivered, I thought I was going to loose it b/c it looked so dark and big and bulky and ewwww. But after I got her bedding, curtains, and wall decor up, I LOVE it. (and I'd do it again, if I had to). I also think it's pretty spunky and I like spunky. Black looks great with all shades of pink and purple, IMO.
I do like all of your choices. You are so creative that which ever bed you choose, you will decorate beautifully!
Good luck and happy hunting. Be sure to blog and let us know what you've chosen!!

I actually like Steve's pic. However, bed a and b are cute too. I think you could make a cute girly room with black furniture. Have fun and enjoy!

I like the last bed. I'm more partial to dark furnitue, although it has to be dusted more often =(.

Ohhhh, how beautiful! I like a and c. A is so feminine and scrolly and c looks like it could really grow up with her (she'd still like it in 10 years or more!). I wouldn't be afraid of the black. I think there are a lot of fun decorating possibilities with it, even with a girl. I think it's classy! I think you can't go wrong with any of those choices. How fun for her!
