Good Getaway

It was a busy, tiring, hectic weekend, but it was good to getaway for a couple of days. This was the first time that Steven and I had actually left town without Emma. We have left her a couple of times overnight and went to dinner and a movie and then early the next day, I would go and pick her up, but it definately felt different to drop her off and then LEAVE!! But it was soooooo nice to be able to just relax and enjoy myself and not have to worry about Emma in the next room and I didn't have to worry about her waking me up before the sun came up either (Patricia and Michael had that pleasure – she was awake before six) J

Steven rode up to Louisville with a co-worker early on Friday and I spent the morning with Emma at home. She was an angel all morning and we had so much fun playing and she even "helped" me pack. Around lunch time, I got the car loaded and took her over to Grandma's house where she was going to stay until her Aunt Tricia got off of work and picked her up. I ran a couple of errands around town and I hit the interstate. I don't think I had even made it 20 miles before I started to ask myself "Am I there yet?" I just wasn't in the mood to drive – I just wanted to be there! But I made really good time and arrived at the hotel about 4:00 pm. (For those of you that don't know, my husband works for Aflac (you know – the talking duck), and they have a BIG annual kick off dinner every year. This was our third year to go and it is held at the Marriot Downtown Louisville. This is one really nice hotel too!) Anyway, I valet park the car, they carried my bags in and made sure I was taken care of immediately (I wish I had someone like that everyday!). Steven came out and we checked in and got our room keys and he helped me get the bags up to the room before going back down to his meeting. I relaxed for a little bit and finally went down to join him and watch some of the new associates "Run the Gauntlet" as they call it. I think the only other time in my life that I have seen this much confetti was in New York City during a ticker tape parade. I was so glad that I didn't have to worry about cleaning it up or getting in the middle of it. Let's just say that for those that had to 'run the gauntlet' – the confetti was everywhere!

The meeting ended and the reception began about 5:30 with dinner at 7:00. Dinner was excellent! And dessert was even better (cheesecake with a chocolate sauce and strawberries!) – YUM-O! Then the DJ started and the dance floor opened up. That part of the evening was okay – but not as good as it usually is……..at least it wasn't if you aren't into rap and hip-hop. The last two years the dance floor had stayed pretty crowded – but not this year. You could definitely tell the difference! Hopefully next year, he will cut back on the rap and hip-hop some. We ended up sitting outside or in the lobby just talking and having a good time. Finally at some point after midnight, we decided we were hungry again and went into the sports bar at the hotel that was still open to get something to eat.

And while the quesadilla was really good – I really don't recommend eating one at one o'clock in the morningL. I finally went up to the room and crashed around 1:30 or so. That bed felt awesome and the feather duvet was incredible! I didn't get up until 9:00 which also felt incredible! We got ourselves ready and packed up checked out, met some friends and went to eat at the Cheesecake Factory.

The rest of the day was spent shopping and just enjoying being together! But I have to admit that everything that I bought that day (with the exception of food) was for Emmaline – go figure!

All in all, it was a good getaway. It was good to get home and pick up our girl. I was ready for some big Emma squeezes! Luckily, some of the puppies were still left, so she was able to play with them one last time, but she did wonder where the rest of them were. I would love to be able to take one of them home, but I really don't think Patches (our little Chihuahua) would appreciate it. Plus – I am busy trying to get Emma potty trained (which is turning out to be a very slow and tedious process), I really don't have time to potty train a dog too!

Hope everyone had a good weekend and have a GREAT week!

How nice to get away. I bet it was hard leaving Emma. We are going to be leaving Miss Josey for 4-days come April...our first real getaway, not sure how that is going to go. She will be 19 months by then, so she might be OK, it will be me that is a mess!!

Keep me up to date on the potty training...trying to work on that ourselves.

Glad you all had a fun weekend...and that you had some new dance moves for the dance floor! I am sad we have to miss this week. :-( It's always nice to know you are leaving your kid with someone who will take such good care of them...kudos to Michael and Patricia for being such great relatives. And I still think you should take home a puppy for Emmaline!

Louisville (or Lou-a-vul) is my second home! I lived there before I got married. I miss it so much. Isn't it a fun city? People are friendly and southern hospitality does exist. It looks like you had a fun grown-up weekend. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Sounds fabulous! How great that you and DH were able to get away for a weekend and enjoy each others company. It's even better to get home and get those hugs though. ;) Sounds like an amazing time.
